Members of WTH Serve as Voice Performers.

The Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health (Yale PRCH) through the Citizens Community Collaborative (CCC) is developing a short, animated video that demonstrates how the Citizenship approach can positively impact individuals recovering from mental health challenges, substance use disorder, incarceration histories, and trauma. The Citizenship approach is based on 5 Rs - Rights, Responsibilities, Roles, Resources, and Relationships, as well as a sense of belonging. Members of Witnesses to Hunger Mark DeBrandy, Cheryl Mmrl Rabe, Tammy Imre, and Do Walker serve as voice performers for the animated film. The video discusses how social inclusion and community integration are relevant to all settings that provide care for community members. The video uses first-person narratives to demonstrate the relevance of the Five Rs in the recovery process. The video's narrative recognizes the value of individuals with "lived experience" in contributing to their community's recovery by discovering and claiming the 5 Rs and building belonging. This educational video aims to educate clinicians, social workers, outreach workers, and members of affected communities to build more inclusive and participatory systems of care. The CCC and affiliated programs highlighted in the video include the Citizens Project, F.A.C.E. (Focus, Act, Connect, Everyday), and Witnesses to Hunger. The voice performers recorded the film at Yale Medicine Office of Communications’ production studio on March 15th. Stay tuned for the upcoming release of this informative and impactful film! In the meantime, enjoy this short clip.
